Beginner Gardeners Grow Cucumbers Easily with This Guide
Why Growing Cucumbers Is a Smart Choice for New Gardeners
Hey frenns!
Cucumbers were the first fruit I successfully grew. If you are interested in growing cucumbers, let me tell you why cucumbers deserve a spot in your garden: They’re easy to grow, produce a lot, and can take you from backyard gardener to homemade pickle lady *real quick*. How do I know? It happened to me. Let me go through the 6 reasons why cucumbers are a winner in your garden space!

Cucumbers Grow Fast—and Give Generously
Cucumbers were one of the first fruit I grew. And once the cucumbers get going, they don’t play! You’ll start seeing flowers and baby cucumbers within a few weeks. Even a couple of plants can give you dozens of cucumbers, making them perfect for beginner gardeners who want to feel successful early on. But be careful those vines can get out of control. Make sure you have a trellis for them to grab onto!

Cucumbers Can Start from Seeds or Seedlings
I have tested this theory for myself. Cucumbers can grow via seeds or starters. One summer I deliberately tested them at the same time. I started them by seeds and with starters. I could not tell the difference. They can easily be sewn by seed directly into warm soil or pick up transplants from your local greenhouse. Either way, they grow fast and are incredibly low-maintenance.
Cucumbers have Tons of Delicious Varieties
Not all cucumbers are the same, and that’s the beauty of it! I have grown the pickling variety and even english cucumbers. Growing your own means you get to choose what suits your flavor and your kitchen.

Cucumbers Fresh Cucumbers or Preserved—You Win Either Way
Cucumbers are more than salad toppers. You can add them to:
– Sandwiches
– Infused water
– Gazpacho
– And of course… homemade pickles

Growing Cucumbers Kicked Off My Pickle Obsession
One summer was THE summer for cucumbers (last summer I did not do so well) so I started pickling the cucumbers. I got a recipe (or a version of a recipe from my mother) and started pickling.
I had about 4 different variety from dill to spicy and even some sweet. Every summer more and more people find out about it ask ‘when can I get some pickles?’ I literally cannot keep up with the demand- plus with my book- it’s taking a lot of my time. You don’t have to do hard canning a quick variety works as well. And no- don’t ask, I don’t have pickles right now. LOL

Growing Cucumbers are Great for Small Spaces & Containers
Cucumbers vine which means they can grow in any method in ground or containers. Container gardening is a simple option, Cucumbers love to climb. A small trellis, tomato cage, or vertical stake turns them into a patio-friendly crop.
