Hey frenns!!!! It’s me.
Your favorite GA peach living in the WindyCity! I have to tell y’all this has been such a journey for me. Many people know me as being the lawyer chick or the motivational speaker. But there was always one side of me that I kept in my back pocket.
I’ve given sneaks of this side of me before but I never felt like I could really make her flourish and shine. That may have been true in some regards, but it was also more in my head. I CAN be fully who I am in all aspects and shine just the same. No matter if I’m in the courtroom, a stage, the kitchen, or the garden.
People would ask me what I did to stay relaxed due to my demanding job(s)- For me that was easy: cooking, baking and gardening. I’ve been sharing this information the entire time- but it never had a centralized place.
I love trying new recipes and creating new dishes. My friends contact me all the time asking about different dishes and suggestions on meals. I’m one of those people who hosts a “backyard” barbecue at my house and has a project plan and a meeting afterwards to assess what I could do differently. I ask people how they liked my dishes and make tweaks based on their feedback.
I’ve always been inspired by cooks and cooking. It started at home for me.
My mother who is an excellent cook, learned from my Grandmother- who learned from her mother- My Granny. And as much as I love those women….I never really felt like they TAUGHT me how to cook.
I was just told to sit in the kitchen and observe. But when I felt it was appropriate- I would ask questions about why different spices were used with different dishes. I wanted to know the origin of certain dishes. I wanted to know where people learned to do certain things. I am one of those people who tries a dish and instantly wants to know how it’s made and try to duplicate it. Unfortunately as much as I asked questions- I never really got a straight answer. And that bothered me. So I decided to teach myself and take it a step further- teach others.
Recipes are what connect us.
To me, recipes are meant to be shared and passed along. Cooking is a learned skill and we have to be willing to share that information with others to keep the traditions going.
That is what WindyCityPeach is all about. WindyCityPeach is more than a name- it is who I am. I am a Southern Girl in a Midwest world bringing a touch of the south everywhere I go. I am teaching you how to cook. Sharing with you how to entertain. Giving tips and tricks to help you make your house a home. A enjoying all things black joy!
Stay around, we are going to be cooking and baking up something! And… gardening when the weather permits (don’t forget the windycity part of the peach name, lol).
